The Nurse Practitioner, Psych Prescriber provides routine and emergent psychiatric care to Salem State University students. This includes performing a comprehensive mental health history and diagnostic interview, ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing, and making therapeutic decisions including prescribing medications within the scope of state licensure. Collaborates with and provides consultation to other treatment providers including mental health and medical providers. Monitors patient outcomes and initiates changes in treatment plan based on patient response. The provider must demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented populations, follow agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA, and maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations. This position is funded via grant funds for this fiscal year only.
- Completes health assessments (patient histories and physical exams)
- Orders, collects, and interprets relevant laboratory and other diagnostic tests
- Formulates and implements comprehensive patient care plans based on patient assessments. Plans include but are not limited to patient education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing.
- Ensures complete documentation of patient assessments, patient care plans, and care provided.
- Provide training and consultation to counseling and health services staff.
Required Qualifications:
- Current NP Massachusetts License
- Certification in respective specialty
- Minimum of one year experience as a psychiatric nurse practitioner required
- Minimum of one year of experience in a mental health setting required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a young adult patient population or in a college health or mental health setting preferred
